Monument Guide: Spanish Steps
They say no trip to Rome would be complete without seeing the Spanish Steps, but if I’m being honest… they’re just steps.
When I came here in 2015 with my best friend, I wasn’t blown away by the steps. So I thought maybe now that I was older, I would appreciate the steps more. I thought if I took a timeout at the famous steps, I would really enjoy it!
& I didn’t hate it, but if I was going to make a list of top sights to see in Rome, this probably wouldn’t make the cut. I just kept thinking about how far we had walked and what we could be seeing instead!
Since we had started our day early and headed straight for the Pantheon and Trevi, we were dying for a coffee by the time we got here! So we grabbed a coffee and a spot on the steps to do a little people watching. I also grabbed a cream filled croissant because they’re delicious!
** On a side note, we got our breakfast from the McDonalds McCafe which was definitely not my idea, Italian coffee from a franchise?? No way! But everyone was hungry and needed a coffee and it was right by the steps, and after I woke everyone before sunrise, I had to concede 🙂
& I was super IMPRESSED! I mean it wasn’t a full breakfast and they didn’t offer a ton of choices but the coffee was super good and so were the pastries!
We were all loving it! & I would 100% go back! **
So anyways, we stopped on the steps to enjoy our coffee and started to people watch. Stu and I have always been big people watchers. We love to imagine what their life is like and make stories for the people we see together. I’m sure our ideas are a little more elaborate than the truth, like secret spies and star-crossed lovers, but it’s fun to take a time out and imagine the possibilities.
We got there around 8:30 am and it wasn’t as busy as I was expecting. So we were able to take a few pictures of our friends and they took a few of us. Overall, it was a nice little break after our busy morning.
If you’re looking for a beautiful place to watch the sunset, the view from the top of the stairs offers great views of the city & while I haven’t watched it here, I did research which leads me to believe this is true 🙂
Also, if you’re looking for another great spot to watch the sun set, Stu and I watched it here ♥
Thanks for stopping by guys! Hope you have a great day!
