Ok. Can I just say, Stu’s family is full of investigators?! I didn’t even make it more than 2 hours with them before one of them asked if we were pregnant! Which I was! But we couldn’t tell anyone – we were only 6 weeks! We were still processing the news ourselves!
So anyways, we had a wedding to go to in Harrison Hot Springs and I knew it was going to be hard to hide the pregnancy – we literally had events every single night we were in town and Stu’s family likes to get together with the family often and usually there’s beer and wine. Fortunately, I’m not the biggest drinker. I much prefer sitting down with a hot cup of tea or coffee. So I didn’t think anyone would notice if I said no to a drink.
But they did. Our first night out for dinner. Everyone ordered drinks and I got a water. As we were leaving Stu’s cousin’s wife Taryn asks him if I’m pregnant!
After that, I knew we were going to have to get crafty.
So the next night, we were all going to a bridal party / family reunion / meet & greet at the bride’s parents suite. Everyone was pre-drinking while getting ready and Stu and I figured out that if I put ginger ale in his empty (clean) beer cans, no one was the wiser. I also bought all the stuff to make “Caesar’s”, I just didn’t add any alcohol!
At the party, I had noticed that Stu’s sister Maxine wasn’t drinking so I brought it up to Taryn (trying to shift the focus to her instead – Sorry Max!! ♥♥♥). She said she didn’t notice but had thought I was pregnant until she saw me “drinking”.
We did the beer can ginger ale trick for the rest of the night and next day and honestly it worked out pretty good because I was fighting morning sickness the entire time we were there.
At the wedding, I befriended the bartender and told her I was expecting and she only served me mock-tails. She even told me I needed at start acting a little tipsy after a few of them.
It was not the easiest thing to hide and I felt bad deceiving everyone. But we knew we wanted to get through the first trimester before we let everyone know. And now that everyone knows, I can let the cat out of the bag about how we hid being pregnant.
